Watch Where You Walk
It's a good thing we found Stripes when we did. We don't know how long he was sitting there and how much longer it would have been before he dried up. Unlike garden snails, which have eyes at the end of long stalks and can look around, nerite snails' eyes are at the base of their tentacles, right by the mouth and scrunched up pretty much against the ground. They do most of their navigating by touch, so if they get dropped far away from the water it will be hard for them to find their way back.
I do wonder how he was able to wash off all the hay and dust stuck to his sticky foot after landing in the hay pile.
